Anchorage, AK – Mad Dog once again worked with Identity, Inc. to create a visual identity for Alaska PrideFest 2016 that represented this year’s theme, “Many Voices, One Message.”
A microphone festooned with rainbow cables or ribbons was the basis of the logo for Alaska PrideFest 2016.
Mad Dog also provided graphics for Beyond the Closet 2, which for a second year invited LGBT Alaskans to share their stories of being out in the Last Frontier. The event was hosted at the newly renovated 49th State Brewery downtown.
[L] Identity, Inc. held their second annual speakers’ event presenting tales of LGBT life in Alaska. [R] Identity sold hoodies and other LGBT merchandise at their PrideFestival booth.
A weeklong celebration of the state’s LGBT community, Alaska PrideFest ran June18–25. In a week of events that included a 5K “Rainbow Run,” a LGBT-themed film festival at the Bear Tooth Theatre Pub, an inclusive wedding expo at the Egan Convention Center, and Drag Queen Bingo at Williwaw, the highlights were undoubtedly the Equality Parade and PrideFestival downtown. Nearly 10,000 supporters packed Delaney Park Strip to enjoy musical acts, food trucks, a beer garden, and a sense of camaraderie and solidarity.
The Equality Parade featured 44 floats and group entries this year, including Nordstrom, Alaska Airlines, Wells Fargo, and the National Park Service.
After a year that saw the ratification of gay marriage nationally and the tragic mass shooting at a gay bar in Orlando, PrideFest seemed to be a gathering place for both commemoration and reflection. But as always, the overwhelming takeaway from the festival this year was celebration and empowerment.
Rainbow flags and colors made a strong showing at the parade and festival.
