Anchorage, AK – Identity, Inc. asked Mad Dog Graphx to help them create a visual identity for Alaska PrideFest 2015. The final mark builds a typographical image of the state of Alaska from a series of words and symbols that represent this year’s theme, “Building Equality.”
The 2015 Alaska PrideFest logo employs positive words like strength, unity, inclusion, and support to literally “build” the state.
Alaska PrideFest is a weeklong celebration of the state’s LGBT community. This year, PrideFest ran from May 30th through June 6th. Events included a 5K “Rainbow Run,” a film festival presenting LGBT-themed features and documentaries, community speakers, BBQs, celebrity drag queens, the annual Pride Parade, a dance party, and PrideFestival – with more than 100 vendors, a beer garden, and two stages for entertainment packed into the center of Delaney Park Strip.
Identity, Inc. introduced the new logo on their website, in the official 2015 Pride Guide, and on Facebook – and rolled out hats and hoodies at the Anchorage Downtown Market & Festival and at PrideFest events.
Identity wanted the logo to have a sense of place, with “Alaska” clearly represented. At the same time, they wanted to incorporate a lot of words evoking feelings of empowerment, self-awareness, and hope – emotions that would resonate with their “Pride” audience base and encourage individual action toward a goal of “Building Equality” for a group that too often experiences discrimination.
The Pride Parade featured flags, floats, families, motorcycles, roller skaters – and more than a few characters.
During Pride week, the PrideFest logo seemed to be everywhere – as shirts, signs, posters, and banners popped up like summer flowers throughout the city. At PrideFestival, the shirts, hats, and other merchandise kept the crowds colorful while showing support for the LGBT community and Identity’s mission.
Alaska PrideFest 2015 was truly a celebration of the diversity of the LGBT community.
