Making Smart Moves (2014)

DESCRIPTION

APA has directed Anchorage’s low income uninsured to free health care – donated by an amazing network of volunteer health care professionals – since 2005.

2014 was the first year of providing service in conjunction with the nationally mandated health care system established by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). While several of APA’s former clients were able to afford subsidized health insurance under the plan, many more discovered that they still could not afford even minimal insurance costs. And some found that – while they could afford the lower insurance premiums – they could not afford the additional deductibles required to receive treatment.

The annual reflects APA’s ongoing strategic efforts to provide access to health care for Anchorage’s poor, even as the national health care landscape shifts around them.
